Thoughts on Christmas 2011

Hello all!

I have been planning on writing a post about this Christmas for about a month now. However, as you can see my month has gotten away with me and it is almost midnight on Christmas. However, the Christmas season continues into January, so I feel it is fine to still write about Christmas even now.

This year is the first year I am spending Christmas in Pulaski. My new apartment has been decorated for the season since just after Thanksgiving:

It is interesting how Christmas tree decorations tend to give you a glimpse into a persons interests. The tree I have, I received as a Christmas present in high school. You can probably imagine that my Christmas tree is decked with purple garland and all sorts of musical ornaments. I love all the jingle bell music notes and musical themed ornaments that cover my tree.

Christmas in Pulaski was much different than our 'typical' Christmas, but nice nonetheless. We had homemade macaroni and cheese with hot dogs, salad, and broccoli. Much different than our normal fancy Italian dinners we normally make. It was nice to have my parents come to my apartment and go to church here in Pulaski.

On Tuesday, we will head to Illinois to see my brother, sister-in-law, and niece. I always look forward to time I can spend with them and we will be celebrating with my uncle, aunt, and two cousins this year. We rarely find time to celebrate with them during the month of December so this will be a nice change. The only thing missing is seeing my sister, but unfortunately I will have to wait for a while before I see her again.

Crocheted Hat Fever

I know I should be working on more 60 Quick Knits for Em and my blog. However, I have suddenly gotten an itch to crochet some hats. Ever since the trip to Stitches Midwest this August I have found my passion for crocheting yet again. I cannot explain it, but suddenly my eyes were opened to all the wonderful patterns you can crochet. Now don't get me wrong I still love knitting, but crocheting was one of my first crafting loves and I am happy to be back to it.

When I went to Stitches I saw this woman, Pam, at the Halos for Hope booth wearing a GORGEOUS hat (pictured above). When I saw it I knew I had to have it. I talked to her about it and she told me it was a crochet pattern that you could find in Annie's Attic - Chemo Caps and Wraps. She did not have any copies at that time, but by the end of the weekend I had purchased a copy that was signed by her! It was very exciting.

My friend Em wanted to crochet the hat as well so I had to try it out a few times to make sure it came out alright. (I tend to teach better when I have completed the project myself, especially because I can kind of freehand different stitches and fix mistakes as I go.) After making one hat, which has received many compliments from both my students and friends.

The pattern is rather simple but works up like a cabled knit pattern. It especially looks beautiful in a variegated yarn. Since I made the first one I made another and am about half way finished with a third hat. Last night I sat down and helped my friend Em through the process of crocheting the hat. She is not particularly comfortable with her crocheting skills, but I helped her successfully crochet the hat in just a few hours. (She only has a little single crocheting for the brim to do.) If she can make it through this pattern so can YOU! The only tricky thing is first learning the DC foundation (from back to front) followed by the Twisted DC Foundation. I looked up a YouTube video to help me get through the stitch a couple times and then it became second nature. Before you know it you have a beautiful hat.

Crocheted and Knitted Dishcloths

Hello readers!

I know it has been a while since I posted in this blog. In case you do not know already, my friend Em and I are currently writing a blog about knitting all the patterns from 60 Quick Knits. You can read and check out our blog here.

Though I have stayed busy knitting all the beautiful patterns from Cascade Yarns: 60 Quick Knits. I still have taken a few breaks in the last few months to express my creativity in different ways. Some of these include, decorating my music classroom with bulletin boards, scrapbooking, and a few knitting and crocheting projects not from the book. I would like to catch you all up in the next few weeks with my many projects.

Today, I am going to share the dishcloths I made a few months ago. In May, I had a friend from high school get married. For a bridal shower gift, I decided to make something rather practical that I know anyone can use. I decided to knit and crochet several dishcloths.

The ones pictured above are knit out of soft cotton. The colors were so vibrant and my friend, Rachel, said they were so pretty she was almost afraid to wash dishes with them. You can find the pattern for these dishcloths here. The blue dishcloth is the basketweave pattern. The green dishcloth is the bramble pattern, and the pink dishcloth is a creation of my own.

When you take a closer look at the dishcloths you will notice I added the letters different ways. I experimented with chain stitching and back-stitching. Personally, I prefer to just knit the letters in. If I were to redo these that is what I would do.

Along with the knitted dishcloths, I also took the time to make three crocheted dishcloths:

All three of these patterns are free patterns that you can check out too! Pattern #1 - Simple Dishcloth, Pattern #2 - Basketweave Dishcloth, and Pattern #3 - Granny Square Dishcloth. For these I used left over Sugar and Cream yarn.

Cascade Yarn and 60 Quick Knits

Well, I have not been working on any projects that are not in the 60 Quick Knits book since Em and I are trying to finish all the projects. As of yesterday we had 17 projects completed. If you would like to see more about how that adventure is going check out our blog 60 Projects from 60 Quick Knits.

Anyways, what I would like to blog about today is how much I am LOVING making all these patterns with Cascade 220 yarns. I had almost finished with project #22 - Cables and Bobbles Cap, when I found that I had run out of yarn.

Normally, I would have been worried as I bought this yarn at a LYS that closed this summer. Luckily I knew the exact color and could buy the yarn online. I went to Yarn Country and ordered LOTS of Cascade yarn to use for more 60 Quick Knits. Below you can see a picture of all the yarn that I received in the mail.

It is so fun to buy yarn online because you get the package in the mail and then get the excitement of opening the box to see what is inside. It can be a little risky because you do not know the exact color, but it is still really fun to receive it in the mail. It is obvious that I received large quantities of yarn, but do not fear I have projects in mind for all of the yarn. Taylor's Strawberry Hat

Back in November my sister-in-law asked me to make my niece a new hat. I made her a cute purple ear flap hat last year for her first birthday. My sister-in-law said it was starting to get kind of small and Taylor (my niece) now has a hot pink coat. After rummaging through all my knitting and crocheting books my sister-in-law loved the idea of a cute hot pink strawberry hat. At first we were both thinking having a stem on the top of the hat, but then she mentioned liking the ear flaps to keep Taylor's ears warm. That is when I decided to make the strawberry upside down. That way the bottom of the hat could be the leaves of the strawberry and two rather large leaves could be the ear flaps.

I debated for a few days and drew some sketches and thought about how to do certain things. I finally started crocheting the hat in late December. By January 5 the project was complete.

60 Quick Knits Duel Blog

Em and I decided that it would be easiest to keep everyone up to date with our New Years Resolution by creating a joint blog. I will still probably write a bit about some of my progress or put links from this blog to that blog to remind you to read my posts. However, it did make a lot of sense to make something that I did not have to constantly update. This way Em can put more information on the projects she completes and I can do the same. If you are interested in learning more about our Adventures, please go to our blog and follow us. Also, if you enjoy the 60 Quick Knits book as much as Em and I do, feel free to join the Ravelry group for 60 Quick Knits. There are all sorts of people that can help with your own projects.

Superbowl Sunday 2011

I have lived in Green Bay the majority of my life. It is a great place to live, but the city's dependance on the Packers can sometimes be extremely annoying. However, these two weeks leading up to the Superbowl remind me why I DO enjoy living in Green Bay. There are parades, there are parties, there are pep rallies. I still remember many parts of the Superbowl XXXI and XXXII. I remember what we ate and different events leading up to the Superbowl. I remember the radio playing about 3 hour or 4 hours straight of Packer music. As a child my sister and I recorded a lot of the music and would play it over and over again cheering on our favorite team. I have now grown older and lost a lot of interest in football (and sports, in general). My love and devotion to music and religion definitely surpass most things in my life. However, you cannot help but catch Packer Fever in a town like Green Bay. My mom has planned all sorts of delicious foods to celebrate the day and spent time debating what to wear to bring the most luck. This year, unlike Superbowl XXXI and XXXII I will not be spending it at home. Instead I will be heading over to a friends house for some knitting. It will be great to spend time with my friends and get some knitting done during the Superbowl. By the end of the game I will hopefully have gotten even closer to completing my wave scarf while watching a Packer win! All I know is if the Packers win I can look forward to a weeks worth of happy faces on many of my students' faces.

60-Quick Knits

My good friend Em and I have made a knitting New Years Resolution. That is to knit EVERY pattern in the 60-Quick Knits book by the end of the year. Between the two of us we have already almost completed half the patterns in the book. I can't say why we are so addicted to it, but I think it has a lot to do with the simplicity yet the detail of each pattern. When you look at some of the projects highlighted in this book they seem to be so difficult or intricate, but as soon as you start them you realize the simplicity. They aren't simple to a point where you get bored, but also not so difficult that you get confused and have to take your project apart over and over again. When we do complete all of the projects we will probably make a post with all the pictures, but for now you will have to wait.

Anyways, currently I am working on three different projects from the 60-Quick Knits book. I am working on the #11 Wave Scarf, #17 Plaid Mittens, and the other is the #23 Smocked Fingerless Mittens. I started the Smocked Fingerless Mittens (pattern #23) on Friday after buying a beautiful purple heather cascade 220 from someone on ravelry. As soon as I saw the color I knew they needed to be something beautiful and I had my eye on the Smocked Fingerless Mittens for quite sometime now. Since Friday I have finished the left hand one (other than the buttons) and I have started on the right one. I am really happy with the first one and just had to show them off.

And yes, I am wearing a Green Bay Packer's jersey. I am currently watching the game and hoping that the 14 Packers - 0 Bears will lead to a Packers win!!! Packers in Superbowl 2011? I hope so!

Christmas 2010 Presents Post

I made all of the Christmas presents I gave this year. Because of that I decided to make one massive post with all of the Christmas gifts I gave out this year. Below are pictures and descriptions of each project and who it was given to.

Starting with my family, I made my sister a Noro scarf. These scarves are made by many many people and there are a lot of different styles and shapes. I picked a brown Noro that is very neutral colors and then I chose a skein that is full of all of the rainbow colors. The actually knitting is also simple as it is starting with an odd number of stitches, then every row you knit 2 then purl 2 across. Because of the odd number of stitches it creates the nice zigzag look of the scarf. Here a few photos to see what it looks like:

For my brother I knit a hat. I was very inspired by the rather new 60 Quick Knits book. I was so inspired that about 6 of the winter projects I created were from the 60 Quick Knits book. This particular hat is called the Tweed Watch Cap. I chose Cascade 220 yarn in the following colors: #9458 - Bainbrige Island Heather (brown), #2424 - Heather Summer Night (blue), and #2452 - Turtle (green). Here is a picture of my brother wearing his Christmas present as well as a few close-ups of the hat:

My sister-in-law was gifted some beautiful mittens. These mittens are the Tweed mittens from the 60 Quick Knits book. The colors I used for her mittens are the following: #2419 - Heather Aster (purplish-pink) and #9921 - Caribbean Blue.

I made my adorable niece a soft sweater for Christmas. I used a pattern from Lion Brand called the Little Princess Cardi. I used Plymouth Yarn Dreambaby DK in a purple, blue, and green. Here is a picture of my niece's sweater.

My mom received a pair of mittens from the 60 Quick Knits called Checkered Mittens. I don't know the exact Cascade 220 colors I used for her mittens as I have no documentation for them at this particular moment. However, I do know I used a light blue for the cuff while I used a dark blue and magenta variegated yarn for the checkers. They were finished already over the summer and my mom finally received them on Christmas Eve. She really liked them and said her hands will probably stay very warm. Here is a picture of them:

My dad was the final family member I made something for. He also had a gift made from the 60 Quick Knits book. His gift was the slip-stitched hat. I made it in a burgundy and gold color. The specific colorways are Cascade 220: #4008 - Heather Ruby and #2415 - Sunflower. Here is a picture of the finished product:

First Knitted Sweater = Complete

I know it has been a while since my last update. I have so many projects to share with all of you. For tonight, I'm only going to let you all know that a few days ago I finished my first knitted sweater. My roommate from college, Em, convinced me to make it back in October. I doubted that I would be able to knit it as I have only been knitting a little over a year now. It is amazing that I have now completed it less than a year later. I would post pictures, as I am very proud of the results (even though I am sure I made lots of mistakes), but they must wait. You see, my mom borrowed my camera for her vacation back in May. Her and my dad went on a vacation to Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, and back to Wisconsin while I stayed here student teaching. Anyways, when I finally got my camera back the batteries were completely dead on it :(... so I cannot take pictures currently. Hopefully next week I will fix that and you can all see the finished product.

Summer is Coming!

It has been a very long time since I last updated this blog. I feel kind of bad about that, but time flies by. It is crazy, the older you get the faster the years go. I'm currently student teaching nearby and I find myself thinking about myself at their ages. There are parts of that time in my life I would love to have back. Being able to just have fun. Sure, you have chores to do around the house and life seems so tough at 10 years old, but you don't have to go look for a job. I miss the capability to think outside of the box completely. As we all get older it is harder and harder to use our imaginations. We are so surrounded by reality and the stresses of bills, how could we ever think of unicorns, magic, and castles. It was in elementary school that I was first inspired to pursue a career in music education. I can only hope to inspire even one of the students I have to see music in a new light...

Anyways to talk about my knitting which I haven't been able to work on much, since I have been teaching. I finished my first pair of socks yesterday. I'm really excited about that and I started working on my sweater once again. Once the summer hits I will hopefully have a lot more updates about my different projects. I can hardly wait to get my hands on another skein of yarn!

Baby Ear Flap Hat

It has been a long time since I last posted. I have worked on a lot of projects and have completed a lot of projects. I'll try to update more this week, but for now I would like to share with all of you the ear flap hat I made for my niece, Taylor. (The picture quality isn't very good, but I'll update the pictures when I take pictures with my actual camera.) I crocheted this hat by freehand. I originally had a pattern, but I knew it would not be big enough for my niece. Instead I kind of just made up the pattern myself and I hope it fits her.

Purple & Green Purse

I took a break from working on Mallory's present and decided to make a quick project to use up some of my left over yarn. I had quite a bit of Plymouth Galway yarns from different purses I have been working on. I took out my Happy Hooker book and decided to work on the Fit To Be Tied purse pattern. I started the purse last night and quickly finished it today. I added a green and pink polka-dotted lining to really complete it. I also had some left over purple and yellow polka-dotted ribbon for another finishing touch. I like the say it turned out. However, I would agree with my mom that it isn't the sturdiest of purses. The handles kind of look a bit funny if you put anything in it that weighs more than a cell phone. However, it is still cute and I'll still use it for just a small going out purse. One Birthday Gift Completed

Yesterday, I spent a lot of the day watching tv and knitting. I managed to finish knitting Katie's birthday gift and then started making an i-cord handle. Finally, I threw it in the wash to be felted. It turned out really nice. After felting, I took out my needle and thread, yet again, to attach the handles. I also decided to add a button hole and button. I thought this added the perfect finishing touch :). Here is a picture of the finished product and a picture of Katie with the purse. She really liked it :)!

I love the colors and I like how cute and small it is. It is perfect for just throwing your wallet, cellphone, and keys into. I liked the pattern too. If you are on ravelry you can find information about the pattern here.

Sewing to Complete Some Projects

Normally I do not do much sewing because I'm not that good with a needle. However, in order to complete the two projects I did today I needed to pull out my thread and needle.

First: I completed the small bag for Kara, which I called the Flowery, Girly, Summery PurseBag... All I needed to do was cut out some felt flowers and sew them on with some buttons as the centers. How Cute!

Second: Em and I decided two nights ago to make a Wal-mart run and make ourselves picture bulletin boards. She picks some nice black fabric and music ribbon. I picked a green and pink polka-dot fabric with ribbon that is purple and green with white daisies. I then picked out some sweet colored buttons. Instead of the usual push-tacks holding the ribbon in place... Em and I decided to use a needle and thread and sew the buttons in place. I think this actually will make it a bit more stable and permanent. Please enjoy the pictures :)

Kara's Bag + Knitting While Camping

A few days ago I finished knitting and felting the bag for Kara (Katie's cousin):

This is a picture right after the felting. The ends haven't been cut out yet. I also plan on adding some felted flowers and sewing them on with some random buttons as the centers. It should turn out pretty cute. I'll upload a picture of the finished product hopefully sometime this week... I just have to finish it :P

Today, I went camping and worked a bit on a gift for a friend. Since it is a gift for a friend... a friend who reads this blog, you will have to wait to see the finished product until I give it to her.

Barnes and Noble = Completed Bunny

Yesterday, Em invited me to go to Barnes and Noble for some knitting time. Zoe and Charles met us there too. Zoe, Em, and I knit for about four hours straight and in that time I was able to finally accomplish completing some projects that I have been working on for a while. I finished knitting the handle on the purse I'm making for Kara. I needed to felt the purse, which I did today. I was really excited to see that when I felted it, it turned out to be the perfect size. I was afraid it was going to be too big, but it turned out to be a good size for a little girl. Now that it is felted, I just need to add some fun flowers to the front and then I'll post some great pictures.

The other project I finished was a little brown bunny. I bought the pattern from Bonami on Etsy. I wanted to make this bunny for a quite a while and I decided that it would be the perfect addition to Kara's birthday present. I enjoyed making the Flopsie Bunny, however, there were a few errors in the pattern. The ear directions were not the most clear and so I ended up free-handing them. Also I think there were a few errors in the body and leg numbers. However, as you will see it still turned out pretty adorable. The first crocheted amigurumi I have completed for the summer!

It's been a while

It has been a while since I last updated my blog. I thought I would update you all on what I have been up to. Obviously, school ;) hence the lack of updates. However, I have managed to work here and there on a number of different knitting projects. As you will note I said knitting projects not crocheting projects. I have put down my hook for the time being and have become rather attached to my knitting needles. Why? Because of Em of course she is a knitting queen (actually knitterqueen1953 on ravelry) she has been helping me learn all types of things.

Lets see my last update was about my booga bag and I showed you pictures of it. Well since then I have made yet another booga bag. Someone asked me to make them one and so I am getting paid for making what I have entitled the Fruity Booga Bag. I entitled it this because it is full of bold colors that really seem to be fruity in nature. It is yellow, a dark blue/purple, pink, and a beautiful lime green. All of the yarn is cascade 220 and I had to double up in order to make it the right size. It turned all great and looking like a colorful basket of fruit. When I showed it to my sister-in-law she gave me yet another paid knitting job. I am now in the process of making a tote bag. This tote bag has no exciting name yet... maybe the Watermelon bag or something... I'll think of something. I am a little over half way done with the bottom of this bag. Pictures of both of the bags will hopefully be up soon. Probably in about four weeks when I'm done with classes. :)

I am going crazy with all these projects going on. I'm normally a one project type of girl but Em has slowly been changing me ;)... Anyways I hope all of you are doing well, I love what you all have been doing and I have still be reading some of your blogs! Keep of the great work!

Making Myself Some Mittens

Now that my booga bag is all finished it is time to start on my second knitting project. Em was making some really cute mittens with the flip-tops. I really wanted some for myself, so Em is teaching me how to make them. It is getting kind of warm so I won't need to wear them... however, I'm alright with packing them away. I showed you in the last post what the yarn looks like. Here is a picture of the first mitten so far:

I now have learned how to purl. :) After working on my mittens a little bit, Zoe gave me some yarn that she didn't want! I'm so excited.

Now to end this... My mom brought my bag to work with her... and someone really really wants me to make another one, for her daughter. Her request was some bright colors. So, I headed over to Loops and Links and picked out some more yarn. My mom was bringing it into work, telling her how much it would cost, and then she can decide if she really wants it. The best part is, if the woman decides she doesn't want it... my mom said she will pay me to make her a bag :)!!! Well that is all, pictures of the colors for the next booga bag, coming soon...

Spring Break At Last

It is finally Spring Break. That means I actually have time to knit and crochet and update this blog :)... First, I want to show you my booga bag! I finally finished the i-cord today when Em came over. (She actually did the finishing steps on it... because I was really really slow :( )... Below is a picture of my booga bag before the wash:

Now that I'm finished with my booga bag, it is time for a new project. So Em is going to teach me to make this awesome flip-top mittens :)... I already have the yarn picked out for it!

The best part is. I got the yarn for it as part of my birthday present. My amazing boyfriend gave me a gift certificate to Loops and Links for my birthday... :)

Spring Break is oh so close........And YET SO FAR!!!

I cannot wait until Spring Break. Spring Break = One FULL week of crocheting, knitting, and practicing... It is going to be one sweet week. I cannot wait... Then I'll be able to share with you some pictures... and some projects. Oh I wish I had time all the time for knitting and crocheting. It is just so darn relaxing and makes me so happy. How's that Booga Bag

So, college... ugh! Takes over my life. This semester is kind of a killer one. Note to anyone thinking about going back to college or already in college or planning on attending college: DO NOT take a Philosophy course (or any other humanities course, for that matter) while taking a History class. It is pretty much social suicide. Why? Because you end up having to read approximately 2,582,435 pages of reading every night (ok a bit of an exaggeration) and you end up having to do all sorts of frivolous writing projects. Because of this I normally have one night a week to sit at Loops and Links (our area yarn shop) and just knit/crochet for two hours. I love that two hours because it really helps me relax from a hard week. Wednesdays are such a beautiful day because of it. Plus Wednesdays continue with just a few hours of homework after Loop Group followed by an hour long mass (it is a Catholic college thing) and finish it off with the newest episode of LOST!

So for the past two or so weeks I have been continuously working on my i-cord for my booga bag. I probably have about 2 or 3 feet of i-cord done so far. Unfortunately, this week I couldn't go to Loop Group :'( because I had a terrible paper to write. So, instead hopefully I can find a little time this weekend to work on my booga bag i-cord. Just for a bit of a stress reliever and therapy ;)... I also found out that there is a knitting/crocheting circle that meets on campus every Tuesday and Friday. I was very excited about that and may join at least their Tuesday part of the group. Well I think that was enough complaining for one day. Off to do some more homework :) (Though now it is homework due for Monday... nothing like getting a head start!!!)

The Booga Bag Update

My Bold Booga Bag

I have been wanting to learn how to knit for a while. Now that I met Em it seems like more of a possibility. We are working together to create a Booga Bag. Em let me pick out some colors from her stash and I picked a rose colored Lion Brand Wool along with a yellow colored Cascade 220. To create the booga bag I started with the rose colored Lion Brand Wool to make the bottom. I then decided to switch to some of my leftover Caribbean Sea colored Cascade 220, which I used for Katie's scarf. Now I'm using the yellow colored Cascade 220, which is kind of more gold. I really love the colors because they are just so bright and make me really happy :). The pattern calls for 64 rows tall and so far I have about 22 rows, so I am not quite half way. I have about 26 more rows of gold, then I'm going to switch to the Caribbean Sea for 4 rows, then finish with the rose color for 4 rows.

Pot Holders and Purses

So I realized that I never posted pictures of the pot holders I made for my mom. My mom asked me to make her some new pot holders. In order to do this, I took scraps of yarn around the house to make some pretty pot holders. Behold the crazy pot holders!

So last night I decided to upload pictures, the problem was that whenever I tried to upload pictures it would give me some sort of error. I realized later that it was because my iPhoto library was very full. I realized that there was a trash in my iPhoto library that wasn't cleared and was holding almost 700 pictures! Deleted some pictures and now I have pictures uploaded. Then it took a long time to upload the pictures to flickr and by the time I did all of this is was about 12:30 am. So I decided to go to bed without an update. So, I'm updating today.

Loops and Links Knitting/Crochet Circle

Haven't updated for a while. Still need to get my butt into gear and upload some pictures :P... A couple of days ago I worked on several new pot holders. My mom wanted to get rid of some of her old ones because they were getting really ratty and gross. So I made about four new pot holders. All of them are just made in some really random colors I chose. Mostly colors I don't use that much, which was nice because really I need to use some of my old yarn. I just keep accumulating it :P My mom is probably annoyed with all the stacks of yarn I have everywhere. She can't wait for me to go back to school and have all this yarn out of the house.

Other than the pot holders, I started a scarf for a friend. I started that at the Knitting/Crochet Circle at Loops and Links tonight. It was the first time I went and I really enjoyed myself. Em helped me check out once I picked out the two colors I wanted to use for the scarf. I picked a purple and then a variegated yarn that is kind of blue and purple and magenta. I'm making a really pretty wave scarf that can be found here. I'm not exactly sure if she will like it... I know she said any colors and any design... I'm just hoping it isn't too girly. The worst that can happen though is she doesn't like it and then I told her if she doesn't like it I'll just take it and make her something else... I mean I l LOVE the colors... and I think they would go well with her lime green jacket. We'll see... Benjamin thinks it is very fancy looking :P

Meeting New Crocheters/Knitters :)

Yesterday I traveled to a little town called Mazomanie. I was meeting a friend who transfered out of my college a year ago. It was so nice to see her again. I also finished a little black cat yesterday morning as a gift to the person I was riding with. It was actually a late Christmas gift. I took a quick picture of it before I left... but it isn't the best quality and I haven't uploaded it yet. I'll try to upload it tonight, since I'm busy doing nothing in a house of emptiness ;)

Today I met someone that I met on Ravelry. We met up at a local yarn shop that I had never been to before. It was so nice and the girl I met was really nice too. When I first got there a woman came up to me and asked "Are you Broadway4me?" it felt so cool to say "yes!" Then I met this Em, who is going to be attending the same college as me this spring. We are close the same age and know a lot of the same people. It so awesome! I have never met someone from online before today... but it makes me so excited! I love meeting new people :) and even more it is exciting knowing that there is an excellent yarn shop right in my 'backyard!!!'

Baby Bib Update

Monster Munchy Bibs

So as I said, I have been working on the baby bibs. I was supposed to go to Madison today, but we cancelled because it was way too icy. Instead I sat at home. My goal is to finish the four bibs and the little toys before we go down to Illinois. Unfortunately, that could be as early as this weekend. So we will see what happens. So far I have 2 bibs finished other than the little detailing. My plan is to have a third one finished before I go to bed. Which shouldn't be too hard seeing as how I normally don't get to bed til 2 in the morning :P

I currently have been working on some more baby bibs for my new niece or nephew. The pattern is from NeedleNoodles's Etsy shop and they are these really cute Monster bibs. I decided on the monster bibs because if you see them, they are super cute and definitely would work for a boy or a girl. I am not fully finished with the first of four bibs. I'll upload pictures of my process as I go.

Sorry for the bad quality, I just took these pictures on my photo booth on my mac. These are pictures of a scarf I got from a pretty good Etsy shop. The scarf is the Porch Swing Scarf in Purple. Happy New Year everyone! I don't know about all of you, but I had a fun time kicking of 2009. I also realized that last year I posted 23 times... this just happens to be my favorite number so it must be good luck right ;)... Well I finished with my Christmas Crafts Picture Posting series. However, I do have more pictures to show you!!! Yesterday I finished a flowered scarf. The pattern for the scarf can be found in the book The Happy Hooker: Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet. I had made a scarf like this before for my sister-in-law but I decided to create a new one, just for fun. I also started on making some baby bibs because I have been really really bored just sitting at home :P

New Years Eve = Last Picture Post... Or is it?

So today is New Years Eve. I actually have plans to go down to Appleton, WI (20 minute drive) to hand with some college friends. I'm looking forward to this and I'm also looking forward to showing you the other three projects I made for my cousins :)

Well enough chatter, you really came here to see the pictures... Today I'm sharing three more of my creations. These three creations are just heads... Yes they are finished, but they are only heads. This is because I wanted to create a little something for all of my cousins. I have six of them and I didn't get to making their little critters until the day before I was going to see them. Hence, I made six projects in a night! Ridiculous... but fun! Hence, all of them just got heads of creatures, which they were happy with.

First project is a stingray, pattern from These Loving Hands, as a request for my cousin Jordan:

Today I would I realized that I don't have any projects that need to be finished. With Christmas come and gone and no more polyfill I decided to start making a flowered scarf. I'm using a pattern from the book The Happy Hooker. I made one already but I decided to give it another try, just for something to do. I'm using a light blue, light green, and light pink. I think it will look nice when it is finished.

So this is the second picture post... Yesterday I showed off what I made for my brother and sister-in-law. Today I chose to show pictures of what I made for my mom, dad, and sister. Enjoy the pictures! :)

For my mom, I made a table topper using a pattern I bought on Etsy. The pattern is by Amy Gaines and can be purchased here. I also used enami eyes for the santa part of the pattern. I like the way it turned out :):

For my dad, I made a CD of me singing :)... You will see the nice cover I made for it!

Finally, I created a Tigger head for my sister. She loves loves loves Tigger and so I started with a tiger pattern and changed it a LOT to make it look like Tigger.

The Start to the Pictures

I have been a busy busy bee this last week. As you may have seen, at the bottom of the monkey pictures post I added a list of projects I needed to get done. I successfully completed all of them and am happy with most of them. I had time to finally upload all of the pictures up to my computer and onto flickr last night. There are a LOT of pictures! Because of this I decided I would make a series of picture posts this week. This is partly to add to the suspense. I'm starting with three of my projects. These three projects were made for my brother, sister-in-law, and their new baby (who isn't born yet but should be any day now)... Enjoy the pictures and please leave comments on the pictures or on this post of what you think :)

First my brother's Christmas gift was a picture frame that I painted. The family, duck, and fish were pre-made. The family was painted by me but was pre-cut, while the fish and duck were pre-cut and pre-painted.

The picture is kind of dark... but you can see what I sort of did. A sunset and water :)

It's Christmas Eve

Today is Christmas Eve and I haven't finished my sister's gift... However I have finished my mom's gift and my dad's gift. I didn't have time to take pictures of my mom's gift before I wrapped it, but I will take some pictures tomorrow when she opens it and I'll post them later for you to see. I'm really proud of the final result. As for my dad's gift... He is getting a CD of me singing :) That is what he has truly wanted for a while...

A Few Pictures

I have a few pictures uploaded to my computer of some of my recent creations. However, there are still some projects I took pictures of, but have not uploaded onto my computer.

The first pictures I have are of a monkey I made for a friend. This monkey has a little Packer Jersey on and the number twelve for Aaron Rodgers. This was created by changing a few things on an Ana Paula Rimoli pattern. This monkey pattern can be found in her publication: Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet:

So I realize it has been pretty much a month since my last post. I thought I would let you all know, that I have created a lot of stuff since then. I just have not had the time to post it all. So I really shouldn't be wasting the time posting these pictures, when I actually have a stack of homework sitting next to me, but it is 8:22 in the morning and I do not feel like it is necessary to start homework at this hour. Especially, after I worked over 6 hours on homework yesterday. Anywhoo... I'm posting pictures finally! So please let me know what you think. First, this is the little penguin I finished a while ago, he/she is for a friend of mine for Christmas. I think he is pretty cute. Then I'm in the process of finishing two different types of polar bears for Christmas. One is a ball and the other is the type the penguin is. Here are some pictures of the uncompleted little guys...

Still Alive

So this last week has been kind of terrible... Some things that were quite unexpected has made this week rather stressful. I'm getting better though, don't worry. Anyways I realized that I still have not posted pictures of my finished penguin. If you are still just dying to see him you can go look at him on my flickr account. My username is bcritters. I still haven't finished the two polar bears I have been working on either. I'm really nervous with Christmas getting closer and closer and I having so many gifts I still need to make. Oh well, I'm sure I'll figure something out... Sometime this weekend or soon next week, I will post pictures of what I have done so far. I cannot promise any changes in the projects status's though, since school work is piling and piling... ugh! Oh also I just recently bought some amigurumi eyes from an etsy shop. They should be arriving soon and that makes me happy :)!!!

Long Weekend

This is day two of my long weekend, I'm really excited about it. Anyways, I have finished my penguin and I started a cute little polar bear. I also am almost done making a ball polar bear. The penguin I hope to have pictures of tonight. I'm so excited! The penguin is based on a pattern in Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet. The cute little guy is going to be a Christmas present for someone. Keep watching for pictures :)

It is rather late, actually rather early in the morning, but I have finally finished my polka-dotted platypus, and I just HAD to share her with the rest of you. Second Day of School

Today was my second day of classes. So far they haven't been that bad. I am a bit more stressed after day two, however, mostly because I seem to have a lot of work cut out for me. You know how that is... Anyways I thought I would show you my room thus far. That way you see what I have been up to crafty-wise.

First I'll show you my collection of platypi. I am currently crocheting a girlfriend for the purple crocheted platypus. She is almost finished and just needs a few more finishing touches.

Then for some of my crafty things... I have the foam animals that my roommate and I put together and then I took an old record and put our names on it for a door dec...

We also added monkey madness by adding a bunch of monkey additions to our room. They were just too cute to turn down.

And finally here is a picture of our entire completed bathroom...

We actually have added more music decorations since this, but I'm hoping to add more pictures tomorrow and have an add as we go project... Hopefully, Dot the Polka-Dotted Platypus will be done by tomorrow too... But we will see because I have a lot of homework tomorrow!

All Work and No Play

So the title tells you everything. I have been working A LOT! No fun for me... However I did get a chance to at least finish the body of my platypus. I have his beak finished and just need to make his four webbed feet. When I finish and attach them I'll definitely show you all some pictures. In the mean time I'm expected to do program planning and bulletin board decorating. Since I haven't had time to work on crocheting I'll post pictures soon of some of the stuff I HAVE been doing. This includes a bulletin board and my dorm room decorations. I hope you all are having more fun time than I am...

Quick Update

So just a quick update so you don't think I'm neglecting my blog already. I actually moved in to my dorm on Sunday. Since then I was expected to go on a overnight retreat, followed by a BBQ dinner, catching up with friends... Plus training all day for the next two days. Tonight I go mini-golfing!!! This is all for a new internship I am working for. In a few minutes, I'm off to eat lunch with the RA's. That means no amigurumi updates. I promise once school starts and I get more organized I'll have more updates. 'Til then got to go... Tons of sirens outside!!! YIKES!!!

Finished Girl Elephant

Last night I finally finished that girl elephant. I finished her during the gymnastics finals for the Olympics. I was so excited seeing us place gold and silver for women's gymnastics. Anyways, I finished the girl elephant, but had no camera to take pictures of her. So today I went out and bought a new camera. This time I hope the camera is better. So now I'm posting pictures of Eleanor the Elephant. I'm also going to post pictures of Pinky the Octopus. I made Pinky for a co-worker of mine. She cried when she got it. Please comment on both! :)

As you can tell Eleanor is a Ballerina. She balances herself on everything she possibly can. This includes books, balance beams, and much, much more...

The one thing that really bugged me about this girl elephant is that it came out a lot smaller than the boy elephant. I used the same brand of yarn, just a different color. This explains why ravelry says TLC yarn isn't all that great. I will no longer be using that type of yarn :(

So, I'm not done with my girl elephant yet, but you can see in the picture all the pieces of various projects I have going on at the moment. The green stuffed thing is part of a platypus I'm making. The brown is a amigurumi based on the idea of roxycrafts little round animals. I'm making a platypus. The gold is a golden bunny from Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet by Ana Paula Rimoli. Finally the dark pinky colored stuff is the girl elephant. I'm figuring I should be done with her today! YAY! Unfortunately, my camera is broken and I have no way of uploading my pictures, because I do not have a camera cord and I lost my memory card usb drive. So, for right now I'm going to be taking pictures using my Photobooth. That means not very good quality, but at least you will get the idea.

Girl Elephant

A few weeks ago I finished a boy elephant for a co-worker of mine. I'm making the girl elephant for a different co-worker and I finish work on Saturday. This means I really, really need to get working on that girl elephant. I don't even have her head done yet. My goal was to work on her yesterday, but I accidentally left all my stuff at someone's house. Then I wanted to work on her last night, but I spent it with some friends. That means tonight, I need to sit down and just work really hard on her. I know I can finish most of her in a night if I just have the time. So tonight is going to be a stay at home night, work on the elephant, and watch some Project Runway and Shear Genius on Bravo.

So I am now creating a blog here on Blogspot. This is because there are so many great amigurumi artists who have a blogspot and I wanted to be able to watch their journals easier, instead of having a million book markers to check every day.

So for people who may not know me I am Brittany. You can now find me on Twitter, Ravelry, Etsy, Facebook, Flickr, Livejournal, and Myspace. If you are looking for me on any of the places it would probably be either the username of broadway4me, bcritters, or bcritters22388.

I am a crafty girl and love doing anything using my creativity. My newest craft is amigurumi. This blog will be all about my crafts. My livejournal will be both crafts and personal stuff. Hope you enjoy everything you see here and PLEASE leave comments. :)
